Treatments for Acne Scars

Treatments for Acne Scars

A number of treatments are available for acne scars. The type of treatment selected should be the one that is best for you in terms of your type of skin, the cost, what you want the treatment to accomplish, and the possibility that some types of treatment may result in more scarring if you are very susceptible to scar formation.
You can use Snail Cream to prevent and repair acne scars and/or seek surgical treatments.
A decision to seek Aesthetics treatment for acne scars depends on:
The way you feel about scars. Do acne scars psychologically or emotionally affect your life? Are you willing to "live with your scars" and wait for them to fade over time? These are personal decisions only you can make.
The severity of your scars. Is scarring substantially disfiguring, even by objective assessment?
A dermatologist’s expert opinion as to whether scar treatment is justified in your particular case, and what scar treatment will be most effective for you.
Before committing to treatment of acne scars, you should have a frank discussion with your dermatologist/aesthetician regarding those questions, and any others you feel are important. You need to tell the dermatologist/aesthetician how you feel about your scars. The dermatologist/aesthetician needs to conduct a full examination and determine whether treatment can, or should, be undertaken.
The objective of scar treatment is to give the skin a more acceptable physical appearance. Total restoration of the skin, to the way it looked before you had acne, is often not possible, but scar treatment does usually improve the appearance of your skin.
The scar treatments that are currently available include:
1) Collagen injection. Collagen, a normal substance of the body, is injected under the skin to "stretch" and "fill out" certain types of superficial and deep soft scars. Collagen treatment usually does not work as well for ice-pick scars and keloids. Collagen derived from cows or other non-human sources cannot be used in people with autoimmune diseases. Human collagen or fascia is helpful for those allergic to cow-derived collagen. Cosmetic benefit from collagen injection usually lasts 3 to 6 months. Additional collagen injections to maintain the cosmetic benefit are done at additional cost.

2) Autologous fat transfer. Fat is taken from another site on your own body and prepared for injection into your skin. The fat is injected beneath the surface of the skin to elevate depressed scars. This method of autologous (from your own body) fat transfer is usually used to correct deep contour defects caused by scarring from nodulocystic acne. Because the fat is reabsorbed into the skin over a period of 6 to 18 months, the procedure usually must be repeated. Longer lasting results may be achieved with multiple fat-transfer procedures.

3) Dermabrasion (ATHENA GLOW). This is thought to be the most effective treatment for acne scars. Under local anesthetic, a high-speed brush or fraise used to remove surface skin and alter the contour of scars. Superficial scars may be removed altogether, and deeper scars may be reduced in depth. Dermabrasion does not work for all kinds of scars; for example, it may make ice-pick scars more noticeable if the scars are wider under the skin than at the surface. In darker-skinned people, dermabrasion may cause changes in pigmentation that require additional treatment.

4) Microdermabrasion. This new technique is a surface form of dermabrasion. Rather than a high-speed brush, microdermabrasion uses aluminum oxide crystals passing through a vacuum tube to remove surface skin. Only the very surface cells of the skin are removed, so no additional wound is created. Multiple procedures are often required but scars may not be significantly improved.

5) Laser Treatment. Lasers of various wavelength and intensity may be used to recontour scar tissue and reduce the redness of skin around healed acne lesions. The type of laser used is determined by the results that the laser treatment aims to accomplish. Tissue may actually be removed with more powerful instruments such as the carbon dioxide laser. In some cases, a single treatment is all that will be necessary to achieve permanent results. Because the skin absorbs powerful bursts of energy from the laser, there may be post-treatment redness for several months.

6)Skin Surgery. Some ice-pick scars may be removed by "punch" excision of each individual scar. In this procedure each scar is excised down to the layer of subcutaneous fat; the resulting hole in the skin may be repaired with sutures or with a small skin graft. Subcision is a technique in which a surgical probe is used to lift the scar tissue away from unscarred skin, thus elevating a depressed scar.

7) Dermarollers - Studies have also shown that derma rollers are oftentimes a better treatment than dermabrasion, chemical peels, and laser resurfacing. They are proven to be just effective in their ability to stimulate collagen and elastin production. Regular use of dermaroller can thicken skin, smooth scars of all sizes and erase wrinkles.
Skin grafting may be necessary under certain conditions—for example, sometimes dermabrasion unroofs massive and extensive tunnels (also called sinus tracts) caused by inflammatory reaction to sebum and bacteria in sebaceous follicles. Skin grafting may be needed to close the defect of the unroofed sinus tracts.
Treatment of keloids. Surgical removal is seldom if ever used to treat keloids. A person whose skin has a tendency to form keloids from acne damage may also form keloids in response to skin surgery. Sometimes keloids are treated by injecting steroid drugs into the skin around the keloid. Topical retinoic acid may be applied directly on the keloid. In some cases the best treatment for keloids in a highly susceptible person is no treatment at all.

Acne Scars??

Occurrence of Scars

The occurrence and incidence of scarring is still not well understood, however. There is considerable variation in scarring between one person and another, indicating that some people are more prone to scarring than others. Scarring frequently results from severe inflammatory nodule cystic acne that occurs deep in the skin. But, scarring also may arise from more superficial inflamed lesions.
Nodule or sometimes called an acne "cyst": It is the most severe form of acne lesion. A nodule is a large, deep-seated, pus-filled, often painful lump. Acne with nodules often results in permanent scarring and requires treatment by a physician.
The life history of scars is also not well understood. Some people bear their acne scars for a lifetime with little change in the scars, but in other people the skin undergoes some degree of remodeling and acne scars diminish in size.
People also have differing feelings about acne scars. Scars of more or less the same size that may be psychologically distressing to one person may be accepted by another person as "not too bad." The person who is distressed by scars is more likely to seek treatment to moderate or remove the scars.

Prevention of Acne Scars

As discussed in the previous section on Causes of Acne Scars, the occurrence of scarring is different in different people. Who will scar, how extensive or deep scars will be, and how long scars will persist is quite unpredictable. It is also difficult to predict how successfully scars can be prevented by effective acne treatment.
Nevertheless, the only sure method of preventing or limiting the extent of scars is to treat acne early in its course, and as long as necessary. The more the inflammation can be prevented or moderated, the more likely it is that scars can be prevented.

Healthy Drink #6. Tomato Juice

The next drink in line for the leadership is unsalted tomato juice. It protects us against a number of cancer types. It contains a large concentration of lycopene, even more than the fruits contain themselves.

Lycopene is associated with lowered cancer risk of the following organs: mouth cavity, lungs, stomach, liver, mammary glands, uterine neck, colon and rectum. In addition, lycopene protects the heart from the action of the free radicals, and hence it reduces the risk of the cardiovascular diseases

Healthy Drink #7. Cranberry Juice

It is hard to overestimate the value of the cranberry juice. It helps prevent the gum diseases and fight the urinary tract infections. The juices sold in stores often contain sugar in them.

Healthy Drink #8. Orange Juice

Orange juice found itself in the eighth place. The juice has vitamin C, which boosts the immunity, protects from various diseases, such as cataract, cancer etc.

In addition, the orange juice is a great source of the folic acid, which is very important for the prevention of the fetal development defects.

Healthy Drink #1. Green Tea

Green tea was named to be the leader. It is valued for the flavonoids it contains, which help reduce the risk of osteoporosis, cancer, and cardiovascular diseases.

In addition green tea is valued for the polyphenols and antioxidants which protect the cells from the damages and neutralise the free radicals.

Healthy Drink #2. Mint Tea

The second place went to the mint tea. It can fight an upset stomach, helps relieve colics, assists digestion by helping the food go through the gastrointestinal tract.

Healthy Drink #3. 1% Fat Milk

Applicant number three was the 1% fat milk. It contains complex carbohydrates, proteins and a little bit of fat, thus the product is digested slowly and you do not feel hunger longer.

Thanks to it the blood sugar stays stable. Milk also contains calcium and vitamin D. Calcium assists cells at burning fat, facilitating this way normal rate of weight loss.

Healthy Drink #4. Soy Milk

Next drink was the soy milk. Regular consumption of this substance helps reduce the risk of developing the cardiovascular diseases.

The dietary fibers and proteins found in the soy milk lower the level of “bad” cholesterol and triglycerides. You can not, however, completely replace the cow’s milk with the soy milk since then your body will not receive calcium and vitamin A and D.

Healthy Drink #5. Hot Chocolate

The next drink is particularly loved by children. It is the hot chocolate or cocoa. The valued properties of those drinks lie in the fact that they lighten the mood and prevent the development of the cardiovascular diseases.

In addition, cacao contains a lot of polyphenols which protect the cells from the action of the free radicals. Consumption of hot chocolate enhances production of the hormone serotonin (low levels of it have bad effect on one’s mood).

Benefits of Honey

Benefits :

1. Honey is sedative, anti-fungal and nourishing

2. Soothes tissues and help retain calcium in the body

3. Antibacterial – great for both internal or external problem

4. Considered to be a swiss army knife in the world of alternative medicine.

5. Honey can boost the immune system

The use :

1. Mixture of equal quantities of honey and ginger juice is a good expectorant. It helps in colds, cough, sore throat and runny nose.

2. For asthma, mix half a gram of black pepper powder with honey and ginger juice mixture. Drink this mixture a few times a day.

3. Honey can soothe and encourage the healing of sores in the mouth or vagina.

4. A bowl of oats porridge with a spoonful of honey will calm the nerve. Ideal to be taken before an exam.

5. Honey is a great moisturizer and can be used on the skin as a natural revitalizing mask

6. Eating a little local honey will make you “immune’ to pollens in the area.

7. To improve eyesight, mix honey with carrot juice. Take one hour before meals in the morning.

8. To purify the blood, mix one glass of warm water with 1-2 teaspoonful of honey and one teaspoonful of lemon juice. Take this preparation daily before you go to the toilet. It will also reduce fat and cleans your bowel.

9. Natural honey causes a lower rise in blood sugar than that of refined sugars in people with Type 2 diabetes. A little unprocessed honey may be added in their drinks when they crave some sweetness in their diet. Just use raw honey to benefit from this goodness.

I can fill a library with the benefit of this superb food. These are just a few examples for you. Start taking honey today!

However, unpasteurized honey should not be taken by pregnant women. Also, make sure you only buy cold-pressed honey because heated honey contains additives, so it may not be able to retain its healing properties.

This week is Honey Week ^_^

Every morning, or just about every morning, the first thing I do after waking up and using the bathroom (I guess you don’t need to know that part) is to make a honey + water drink. This may sound like an old wives tale or something your grandmother might have told you, but there is some serious truth behind the benefits of such a practice…I’m sure you’ll be surprised once you finish reading the information below.

First, how do you make the drink?
Simply add a teaspoon (Do Not Use Metal Spoon-Aluminium metal is harmful in acidic medium. it leaks and so, u will eat a percentage of Aluminium . That has a rule in causing Alzheimer! So never make your food acidic when u are using aluminium containers.) to a glass of natural mineral water.

Did you know that honey has been shown to be far superior to conventional antibiotics in treating infections and without the negative side effects associated with antibiotic use.
It is amazing that the bacteria-killing properties of honey increase two-fold when diluted with water. Maybe that explains why newly born bees are nourished with diluted honey.
Also, when honey is mixed with water, a chemical reaction takes place resulting in the creation of hydrogen peroxide, the most powerful natural antibiotic. Unlike the hydrogen peroxide purchased in the pharmacy, the one produced by the above mixture is natural and therefore protects itself from being associated with conventional man-made antibiotics and their negative effects.

It only takes approximately 7 minutes for the honey + water mixture to diffuse into the bloodstream – ready to fight the bad stuff!

Apparently Mr. Hippocrates (430BC approx.) used two different honey mixtures, sometimes mixing the honey with vinegar and sometimes with water. He found that the honey water solution was far superior in treating wounds, though he probably did not know why.

Remember remember, use organic, unpasteurised (unpasteruized for my American readers :) ) and unfiltered honey – and to really be picky: try to source honey of locality, i.e. produced near to where you live (though this is not essential, it is very beneficial!)

So I guess you’ll be having a honey water beverage tomorrow morning?

Professional Treatments Body Polish

After a full-body polish, your skin will look fresh and glowing, and you'll feel energized, pampered, and refreshed. If you're looking for a professional exfoliation session, try a body polish. Here's more about this spa treatment.

Exfoliating at home is effective, but sometimes you want to indulge in a professional treatment. In the same way a professional facial can leave your face glowing and fresh, a professional exfoliating treatment, or body polish, can leave your whole body smooth, soft, and vibrant. Like at-home exfoliation, a body polish removes the surface layer of dead cells that can make your skin look dull or rough. The polish exposes the fresh, healthy skin below. It can also help energize you and stimulate your circulation.

If you’re ready to give body polish a try, here’s what you need to know.

During the body polish. Spas offer body polishes featuring many types of scrubs. Sand, salt, sugar, and are popular choices. These are blended with oil or cream and may have an added scent, so your therapist might offer you a choice of aromas. She will typically begin by having you lie facedown and will rub the scrub on your back, the backs of your arms and legs, (

A body polish won’t feel like a massage, though sometimes the two treatments are combined in one spa session, usually with the scrub first and then the massage

.)

After the body polish. Following your exfoliation session, the scrub can be removed from your skin by a few methods. You might shower off to rinse it away. If your body polish includes a Vichy shower, the therapist will rinse you off on the table. Or the therapist may wipe off the scrub with warm, wet towels. She will then finish by applying a moisturizer or oil to help keep your freshly polished skin hydrated. The whole treatment usually takes about 40 to 50 minutes.

While body polishes are appropriate for just about anyone, they are not recommended if you have cancer, a fever, a sunburn, or a skin condition that could be aggravated by the vigorous scrub. Be sure to tell your therapist if you think you might be allergic to a scrub’s ingredients.

Treat yourself to a body polish — it can leave you glowing on the outside and energized on the inside.

Derma Roller Acne Scar

Q. What is a Derma Roller?

The Derma Roller (also called skin rollers, microneedle rollers, and dermarollers) is a small hand-held rolling device which has micro surgical steel needles that reach the inner surface of your skin to promote skin repair from the inside out. It stimulates elastin and collagen production in the skin without causing any damage.

Q. Do Derma Rollers Really Work?

Derma Rollers are supported by clinical studies to be effective in non-surgical and non-ablative treatment for a variety of skin conditions. These include aging, (wrinkles, fine lines, and stretch marks), scarring (acne and breast augmentation), as well as cellulite and hyperpigmentation.

Studies have also shown that derma rollers are oftentimes a better treatment than dermabrasion, chemical peels, and laser resurfacing. They are proven to be just effective in their ability to stimulate collagen and elastin production. Regular use ofderma roller can thicken skin, smooth scars of all sizes, and erase wrinkles.

Acne Scar Treatment and Acne Scar Removal

You get rid of the acne, now what about those scars that are left behind?

The effects are both physical and emotional, and are difficult to avoid if you’re one of the unfortunate individuals prone to scarring.

Scars are formed because of tissue loss, and it’s the lack of collagen in the skin which results in the scar being visible.

FAT & CELLULITE REDUCTION

Tripolar Slimming systemTripolar for skin tightening and cellulite reduction uses two applications in one system. This means you can have skin tightening and cellulite reduction all in one treatment:

Skin tightening

  • Face
  • Neck & jowls
  • Arms/batwings

Cellulite Reduction

  • Abdomen/obliques (love handles)
  • Buttocks
  • Thighs - inner and outer

How does Tripolar RF technology work?

This non-invasive and pain free technology uses one head to deliver RF energy to the skin - combining the effects of uni-polar and bi-polar technologies selectively heating fat cells in the skin tissues.

Tripolar uses one head to simultaneously heat deep and shallow tissue layers all the while protecting the surface skin. Now making it easier and faster than ever to smooth, tighten and regenerate the skins collagen without injections, surgery or downtime.

As our skin matures and is continuously subjected to environmental effects, its connective tissue begins to break down, causing wrinkles and other signs of ageing develop.

The Tripolar RF energy penetrates the skin layers to selectively heat the skin tissue and the extra-cellular matrix (ECM) where the Collagen fibers are embedded. The local heating causes an immediate contraction of the collagen fibers, and at the same time increases the metabolism of the Fibroblasts thereby accelerating the production of new Collagen and Elastin fibers.

The contraction of Collagen fibers and the regeneration of the Collagen and Elastin deposits, tighten the skin layers creating smoother, healthier and younger looking skin.

Body Sculpting & Cellulite Reduction

Cellulite is a change in the fat stored under the skin, appearing as dimples or ripples in the skin. It affects most women. In fact studies have shown that about 80% of women over the age of 18 have some degree of cellulite. Yes, even thin women!

Dimpled or rippling skin commonly referred to as cottage cheese is mostly found on thighs, buttocks and stomach. Focal heating of the fat cells in these specific areas increases the rate at which liquid fat is released from the heated tissue.

Tripolar RF technology, effectively treats cellulite at the root of the problem. Tripolar's unique configuration selectively heats the fat cells under the skin without adversely affecting the surrounding tissues, wherein increasing metabolism and secretion of liquid fat. At the same time, simultaneously heating deep and superficial layers of fat, doing so by combining the dual effects of uni-polar RF and bi-polar RF in one applicator.

Cellulite condition – Accumulation of a large number of enlarged fat cells in the Hypodermis. The accumulated fat presses the skin creating the “cottage cheese skin” effect.

Tripolar RF Technology selectively increases the temperature of fat cells doing so simultaneously in the deep and superficial layers of fat. This increases metabolism and the release of liquid fat from the fat cells.

After treatment and release of liquid fat, the fat cells shrink in size and skin is restored closer to original form, reducing or eliminating the cellulite appearance.

An alternative solution for those not able to have Smartlipo or Vaser Lipo

For fat reduction Smartlipo and Vaser Lipo are the gold standards, being performed by EF MediSpa's cosmetic surgeons. These are medical procedures which may not be indicated for all clients. With this in mind EF MediSpa offers Tripolar next generation technology as a non-invasive alternative. Tripolar not only heats the fat cells under the skin without adversely affecting the surrounding tissues, it also increases the metabolism and secretion of fat.

Tripolar is clinically proven on all skin types to regenerate collagen, tighten and tone the skin and improve overall skin laxity.

How many treatments are needed?

A course of 8–12 treatments with one treatment per week is recommended depending on the area of the body being treated. Each treatment lasts between 30-60 minutes per area. It is possible to treat more than one area per session.

After the initial treatment course, to ensure long lasting results, it is recommended that a maintenance programme is undertaken. Your EF MediSpa consultant will be able to advise you on the maintenance programme towards the end of your course of treatments.
