Haematoma is the most common complication of face-lift, occurring in about 1 in 30 to 1 in 20 women and 1 in 20 to 1 in 50 men.
Nerve injury is occasionally seen after face-lift and may affect the sensation nerve leading to the earlobe or the facial nerve that makes the facial muscles move.
Paralysis from facial nerve injuries is often temporary, but on rare occasion surgical nerve repair is needed.
Skin sloughs occasionally occur with face-lift, but are usually confined to a small area behind the ear. This may heal in a cosmetically acceptable fashion on its own, or may require surgical revision at a later date.
